Humax Foxsat HDR 500
The Humax Foxsat Hard Disk Recorder will allow you to view satellite TV channels in stunning High Definition, record programmes and view the BBC iPlayer all from one device. After you have completed setup, you will be able to see over 80 digital channels including those broadcast in High Definition (BBC HD, BBC One HD and ITV HD). As this is a Freesat unit, there are no ongoing subscription charges you have to pay. The Humax FOXSAT HDR will provide you with an excellent picture quality and will even upscale non-HD channels. This 500Gb digital TV recorder is easy to install, just connect the satellite feed and the system configures itself automatically requiring only the postcode to select the correct regional BBC and ITV channels.
Recording is easy and the Humax Foxsat unit has a 500Gb hard disk drive providing up to 300 hours worth of recording.The unit is equipped with twin tuners; allowing you to record two TV programmes broadcast at the same time or watch one and record another. You can even play back a previous recording whilst recording two channels.
The Humax unit also provides the ability to pause live TV whilst you go and get a cup of tea or answer the phone. Up to 2 hours of the programme will be temporarily stored on the hard drive allowing you to start watching when you are ready. This feature is different to recording a channel. The PVR is equipped with a full colour high resolution Electronic Programming Guide (EPG), which allows you to view programme information on all channels and choose which programmes you want to record.
Connect you Humax unit to the internet and you will be able to view the BBC iPlayer on your TV. To do this connect your router to the Humax unit either directly using a cable or using powerline connectors which allow you to use the power cables in your home as a network connection (these powerline devices must be bought separately.
To view programmes using the BBC iPlayers watch-again feature, you first have to navigate to a BBC channel and then press the red button on the Humax remote control. Please note that this can take a little time. One of the first items in the menu is the BBC iPlayer, select ok on the remote control and then you will see the BBC iPlayer screen which will allow you to choose the programme that you want to watch-again.
The remote control is very directional and so you must point it directly at the PVR, however, one of the added benefits is that it can be setup to control your television and DVD as well. On the front of the unit, there is a power save feature and so you are able to configure whether or not the display remains on, showing the clock or whether the display is altogether switched off in standby. Some people also find it helpful that you can see the channel you are watching or listening to on the face of the Humax FOXSAT, which allows you to switch off the television and just listen to the music on one of the freesat music channels but still see or change channels.
