Antenna Project; mount a exterior Rabbit Ears Antenna on a Sat Dish?
I live in a area with lousy reception (rural) I want to mount this Rabbit Ears, It worked fantastic on my Truck, UHF Antennas are pretty the same.. I plan to remove the Sat Device obviously..reflectors work well for CB....This will be able to rotate to the desired direction for best signal, up high on the Roof...ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT???????? please...only helpful comments are requested...THANK YOU
Answer:
Your best bet is retain the satellite system!
VHF and UHF TV signals are AM signals. AM signals need to be very good in order to effect improvements from changing antenna systems. If you have digital transmissions, it is possibly more likely you can get sufficient signal levels.
If you are receiving noisy signals on rabbit ear antennae, a good VHF/ UHF antenna mounted high may improve the situation. If you still see noisy pictures, it is near impossible to get enough extra gain from antennas to make good. Even doubling or tripling up antennas makes no substantial difference (don't even try this, if you don't understand how to combine them!).
If losses in the down cable are extreme, a masthead amplifier can be fitted. But fitting an amplifier can only fix up a picture that is noise free or at least reasonable, at the antenna. If bad reception there, you amplify the noise as well.
Often, moving an antenna to a different location, or changing the height up or down, may improve reception.
