Where can I create a people network database online?
I want to organize my multi-tiered network of people in an online database. For example, I start with me and branch to the people I know. I enter relevant notes about each and thew branch to the people they know, ad infinitum. I mark good contacts for quick reference to them and their networks. Ideally, this database is maintained online for access from any computer with easy gui.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you are trying to do, but it sounds like you would benefit from checking into making a personal wiki. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_wiki. It lists some examples of possible uses as well as giving a full definition and description. You can also do a search for "personal wiki" or "personal wiki free" and discover all kinds of specific applications and how to guides.

How to Identify Network Multi-level Marketing
Network multi-level marketing or referral marketing is basically a marketing strategy where the sales force is not just compensated for the sales that they personally generate but also for the sales of people that they have recruited. This creates a treelike structure or hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation.
It stands in direct contrast to the traditional supply chain where distributors and wholesalers carry the product to the retailers where the end customers buy them. Multi-level marketing management programs save on these middlemen and compensate the people, directly selling for them, instead.
Network multi-level marketing is a genuine business model different from a multi-level marketing scam. It is, however, unfortunate that there is no easy way to spot a scam from the real deal. They can exist side by side on a spectrum with sometimes very small differentiators. They have been widely criticized for their similarity to pyramid schemes, their relentless exploitation of personal relationships as well as an unhealthy focus on recruiting versus actual sales. Some easy ways to identify a good MLM program versus an unhealthy one are given below:
- Genuine marketing revolves around a product of real value with real competitive advantage. Make sure that the products that you are being asked to sell are not just a cover up for a pyramid scheme – the asking price should also be their perceive value. If the prices are higher, in all probability, it is just a better disguised pyramid scheme. If there are no products involved, just avoid it altogether or report it to some consumer group.
- Watch out for more than necessary focus on the business of recruiting versus the selling points of the products themselves. While network multi-level marketing companies peddle the training by saying that `recruits' need training, it is just an effort to take focus away from what are very boring, valueless products.
- There is almost always an insistence of the recruits being the customers as well. Watch out for any insistence on minimum product pick- ups or any kind of registration fee to join. You will have to use your judgment here as many bona fide schemes will also depend on your buying a minimum stock for resale.
- Too much focus or talk about the profit potential or `last year's earnings' of one particular member, are not always signs of a good MLM program. A good business focuses on building competitive advantage with its products and sales team and not harp so much on the money making opportunity there is. Truth is, for every cent you make, somebody above you will make 10.
If you look closely, you will find that network multi-level marketing is really no different from a regular pyramid scheme pattern. The only difference lies in the value of products being exchanged. Try and find out as much as you can about both the products and the promoters. You will be better able to identify a real opportunity when you see one.
