Configuring Your Cable Internet Connections To Optimize The Performance
It can often de difficult to know whether the deal that you are getting with your cable internet is giving you the best possible results. Whilst the cable internet providing company will always advertise the theoretic maximum speed of the service that they are offering, in reality, customers will very rarely achieve the maximum speeds. There are many reasons why the actual internet speed may be lower than the theoretic maximum speed, but it is not always unavoidable, so here, you will learn a few tips and tricks to help you to configure your connection in order to get the best possible speed when using the cable internet.
Noticing a dramatic reduction in interest speed after a duration of faster connection speeds cannot only be frustrating and annoying, but it can waste time and means that you are not getting the most out of your service. You should not simply wait for these slow downs in connection speed to go away, but follow a few troubleshooting steps in order to help you to rectify the problem and get your internet connection performing quickly again.
First of all, you should search on the internet for a cable internet speed tester. There are many of these available and should be completely free. The tester will tell you the actual download and upload speeds that you are getting. One thing that often work is simply switching your cable router off at the plug socket, waiting about 30 seconds or so and then turning it back on. This will cause it to restart and you should notice an improvement in your cable internet speeds. Finally, you should check to see if you can use other things on your computer as well as the internet at a comfortable speed. If you are finding that the entire computer is lagging, you may want to use disk cleaning, virus scanning and update programs. If your computer is still performing slowly, you could reinstall your operating system or if the system is particularly old, consider purchasing a new computer that can offer you better performance.

For example, what is the voltage drop across 100 feet of 6mm diameter copper cable from a 12 volt AC source at one end and having a 300 watt light at the other end? The current in the cable is 25 amps.

First you need to know the resistance of the cable. Go to a table and find the resistivity of copper (or the inverse of it: conductivity)
R = rho * (L / A) -- length increases resistance, cross sectional area decreases it. Rho is a material property.
The voltage drop across the cable (assuming 25 amps in the cable) will just be I * R.
The voltage available for the light is just 12 - voltage drop. (The light will not be consuming 300 watts. Instead it will be consuming 25 amps times whatever voltage is available.)
