My 5 month old kitten used food dish as litter box?
We got him a few days ago and followed the animal hospital advice to get him used to the litter box. He seemed to get a hang of it right away, for 2-3 days we had no problems w/ litter box. Then, last night, right in front of me, he got into the empty food dish, immitated digging and peed. After I cleaned it up, he did the same thing again, accept a #2 this time. What was that about?
Answer:
Could be that your kitty did this with his litter mates before you got him. I don't think he'll continue to do this in the future. You could try putting his food in a saucer on the floor in a room away from his litter box. If you catch him doing it again just Pick him up and place him in his litter box. If he continues to pee in his food dish pick up the dish and pour the pee into his litter box and use an entirely different feeding dish. I'm sure he'll figure it out eventually.
