A free cable and satellite TV market allows competition between several service providers starting from the kind of packages they offer to their users. Among the constant elements present in the cable and satellite TV comparison, premium services are the most regularly counted, together with the type of room configuration system. But for cable networks, television would have looked different these days: at the beginning all those who didn't get good signal from local affiliates subscribed to the cable network and thus contribute to its influencing of the television landscape. Presently, cable systems have turned into highly complex structures, as they face organization in business conglomerates and cooperations with satellite companies too.
Depending on the taxes payed by television providers and under the influence of local taxes, the monthly fees for cable and satellite TV could increase. Thus, satellite options are more advantageous in terms of price because their taxes are not set by local governments and usually include less complex infrastructures. The present problem of cable networks is that they need to hurry and convert the millions of miles of underground lines into digital channels. Therefore, the costs for cable services remain superior to those for satellite; yet the structure of the discounted packages have a certain influence in the matter too.
The number and type of channels remain similar with both cable and satellite TV companies, but there are good bits and bad bits about each of the variants. Satellite options for example give the viewer the choice of programs by means of extensive feeds and optional packages: this means that you can have access to a huge channel universe of almost 500 channels. On the other hand, cable networks are a lot more advantageous for one who isn't interested such diversity, but would rather pay for good network reception only. Local programming is thus the solution offered by cable companies as a counter offer to satellite.
Equipment is one other difference between cable and satellite TV options; with the cable, the TV set is all you need, while with satellite you'll need a lot more for digital programming. A dish with a matching convertible, a compatible TV set and a remote control remain the basic items for satellite use, with the mention that satellite requires a continuous open view to the southern sky for signal reception. Unfortunately, if you live in an area with stormy weather, then, the satellite is not that advantageous because of the gaps in the signal reception.

Frequently Asked Questions...
What are the advantages of Digital terrestrial TV over Digital satellite TV?
Answer:
Digital terrestrail TV is free. More channels come online from time to time. Right now I get 35 digital channels in the Seattle area. Not all are up and running but the signal is there. I like the free part.
Many cable/satellite channels are owned by the cable/satellite companies and will never be offerred for free. If there is a particular channel you really want and its only on satellite you will have to get sat. to get it.
Personally I sit around way to much already. I'm not going to pay to do it. I will stick with terrestrial.
