How To Find A Good FTA Satellite Receiver
Are you reading this because you have heard about the advantages of Free to Air and want to watch FTA, too? Then the first thing you need is an FTA Satellite Receiver to decode MPEG data compression. Although FTA does not include some paid programs like DirectTV or Dish Network, it has become popular to switch to FTA in order to save some money.
Just follow this 6 step guide if you want to find a proven FTA Satellite receiver that works well and has the features you want:
Locate A Retailer
Your first step is to find a retailer that can sell you the required FTA equipment. You can check your local electronic stores, for instance. Probably you will have no problems at all finding a retailer. However, if noone sells FTA equipment, just go ahead and ask them for a list of selling retailers.
Look For A Manufacturer You Can Trust
Due to the popularity of Free to Air equipment, there are now a lot of different brands and models. Some manufacturers have just entered the market and begin to sell their own FTA Satellite receiver. Make sure you get some information about the manufacturer and go for one that already has experience in this field.
Compare The Features
Since you have narrowed down what you want already, you can now make a list of models. This makes comparing their features very easy. Picture zoom, guide displays and video recording… there are a lot of options and you should go for the one FTA Satellite Receiver that satisfies your needs.
The Compatibility
This is probably a no-brainer. Always check if your new FTA satellite receiver will be compatible with the rest of your equipment. Better be safe than sorry.
Warranty And Return Policy
Another no-brainer I guess, but still important to mention. You don’t want to end up with a product you can’t give back if you dislike it.
Now Buy Your Equipment
Now you know exactly what you want. And you know that everything is combatible with each other. The Warranty is okay, too.
There's nothing holding you back - you can buy your state-of-the-art FTA Satellite receiver!

Frequently Asked Questions...
Can FTA Receivers with PVR functionality be used to view OTA channels?
Hi,
I am looking to replace my Cox subscription and DVR. I was not successful in finding a good OTA DVR (Echostar TR 50 hasn't released yet). My questions.
1 Can I use a FTA receiver which has a PVR functionality, to connect a rabbit ear antenna and record local channels?
2. Can you suggest some which have the following features:
a)Dual-tuner (ATSC)
b)PVR/DVR functionality (external HDD requirement is OK)
c)Be able to connect to internet. Via ethernet port, is fine, but being able to connect over wifi is even better.
d)Ability to pause, rewind, live TV will be needed.
Thanks.
I don't want to pay any fee to COX and TIVO. I want a subscription free method of viewing and recording programs.
Answer:
If you don't mind the fee, a TiVo HD will do what you want.
An OTA capable FTA satellite receiver may do what you want.
If you are looking for something to tide you over until the Echostar unit is released, I suggest a USB ATSC tuner.
