Frequently Asked Questions...
How to set up a second Bell Expressvu receiver to dish?
My dad is normally the expert in this area, unfortunately he is away and out of reach. We are trying to set up a second receiver for my mom. I'm going to refer the two receivers as #1 and #2, number 2 being the new one. We were able to get #2 set up and ready for use. When we hooked up #2 to the dish we lost use of #1 (the guide displayed no info and we lost majority of channels, some channels came in clear and these channels we were unable to get with #2). Checked the alignment and it seems OK, we know this because #1 works fine if #2 is unattached. Could anyone please make any suggestions to help us out. The whole part of our quest is to help make our mom more comfortable while re cooping from her last chemo session, with our dad is unavoidably away.
Answer:
You can hook up as many receivers as you like, but only one (the master) should control the dish, the others should be DC isolated.
The dish, or more correctly the LNB on the dish has 4 modes, high band, low band, horizontal and vertical. The master will control this mode, the other receiver(s) will only get channels in the same band / mode.
What is happening in your case is when you add the #2 RX it is changing the band and or polarity, and thus the channel, or 'no channel' as may happen.
